This certificate is a share for denomination French Francs 500 issued by the Banque Industrielle de China which was chartered in Paris on 15 March 1913. The bank had offices in Shanghai and Paris and was involved in a number of loan agreements between the Chinese Government and foreign financial institutions. It declared bankruptcy in 1922. The Chief Director, A.J. Pernotte was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for his part the bankruptcy.
